Searching for Scholarships

The alphabetical list below is a sample of free scholarship search services. Birthingway is not affiliated with, and does not endorse, any of the organizations included in this sample. The intent is to help students take the first step toward a successful scholarship search.

CareerInfoNet is the Department of Labor’s comprehensive scholarship database. Students search for scholarships by one of four criteria types, then click on results to see a breakdown of general information such as deadlines, number of awards given and contact information. Students must apply directly with each scholarship agency.

College Board is a non-profit organization that administers a free scholarship database. Students may search for scholarships without creating a user profile. Scholarships are linked to awarding agency websites; students either complete individual applications with each agency or create a single application that may be sent to a select group of scholarship organizations.

FastWeb is a free scholarship database linking students to 1.5 million scholarship opportunities. Students must first create a user profile to search for scholarships. Scholarships are linked to awarding agency websites; students complete individual applications with each agency. Scholarships.com is a free scholarship database linking students to 2.7 million scholarship opportunities. Students must first create a user profile to search for scholarships. This site links students to individual agencies.

Scholarships360 profiles a single scholarship each day of the year and allows visitors to browse recently profiled scholarships. Each scholarship comes with a description, eligibility criteria, and link to the sponsoring organization.

Some sites allow students to create an application using Scholar Snapp, which allows students to save commonly used scholarship application material.

You can also visit your public library and search through scholarship guides. Multnomah County Library has a number of resources. Search by Subject: Scholarships—United States—Directories.

Outside scholarships are considered a financial aid resource and must be added to a your financial aid award letter. Please provide the Financial Aid Officer all award information.

Depending upon the amount of the scholarship, we may need to make adjustments to your financial aid award, such as a reduction to your unsubsidized or PLUS loan eligibility. You will receive an updated award letter alerting you to any adjustment.
