Birthingway has transitioned from Coursepages to Google Classroom. (Google is ending support for the Sites system we used to create Coursepages.) Courses for Fall 2017 and before use Coursepages. Courses for Winter 2018 and after use Google Classroom. Follow the appropriate instructions below depending on the term.
The old Coursepages will be accessible for one year after the end of the term, or until Google permanently shuts down the old Google Sites system, whichever comes first. The future availability of Google Classrooms is yet to be determined, but will be for at least one year from the end of the term.
How to access Google Classroom (Winter 2018 Courses and later)
To access Birthingway Coursepages or Google Classrooms, you need to have either a Gmail email address or a Google Account. A Google Account does not have to be a Gmail email address. You can use an email address you already have, but you need to set it up with Google following the instructions below.
If you have a Gmail account and gave us your Gmail email address and are logged into Gmail, you can skip the rest of these instructions. Just scroll down to the appropriate term below and click on the name of the course you are taking. The Coursepage will open in a new window or tab.
If you have a Gmail address but gave us a different email address for your contact information, the easiest solution is to change your email address on file to your Gmail address. Contact the Technical Coordinator to make this change.
If you do not have a Gmail email, you may need to create a Google Account. This can be done with any email address and does not mean that you need to sign up for Gmail. Be sure to click “I prefer to use my current email address” after following the link to Google.
I have discovered that many people who don’t have an @gmail.com email address already have Google Accounts but don’t realize it. I recommend that you click on the “Join” button in the email you received, or the appropriate link below below and see what you get.
- If the Coursepage or Classroom opens or Google asks for a password, then your email address is already a Google Account. If you don’t remember the password, you’ll have to follow the reset instructions. Otherwise, you’re done!
- If you get a message about “requesting access” or “Class not found” then you are logged into a Google Account. The account name will appear in the upper right corner or as your Google Account Icon. If that is an account you are willing to use for this purpose (and not just someone else who checks their Gmail on the same computer), contact the Technical Coordinator from the email address you gave us at registration and request to change it to the Gmail address. That will save you the trouble of creating an account below and when using links sent to you about your course, but it will also make the new email the primary one Birthingway uses to contact you.
- If you get a page asking for your email address with a “Next” button, or don’t want to use the account from the step above, then you most likely need to follow these instructions:
- Click on this link: https://accounts.google.com/SignUp (This link will open in a new tab or window so this instruction page will stay open)
- Under “Choose your username,” click “I prefer to use my current email address” or you will create a new Gmail email account. Enter the email address you gave Birthingway when you registered under “Your email address” and then fill out the rest of the form.
- Click “Next step”
- If it says “A user with the email address you specified already exists” when you type in your email address, then you already have a Google Account and you can use that email and password to access the Coursepage. If you have tried the link to the Coursepage below and it’s not working, contact the Technical Support Coordinator for assistance.
- If you don’t get an error, follow the rest of the instructions and log into your new Google Account. Once you have done that, come back to this page and when you click on the link for your Coursepage, it will open.
If you have any problems with this process, feel free to contact the Technical Support Coordinator with as much information about your problem as possible, especially if it’s one of the steps above.
- Log into your Birthingway Google Apps Account (the link opens in a new window).
- Click on the grid of squares near your user name at the upper right (the Google App Launcher).
- Scroll down until you see “Classroom” and click on it.
This opens a new tab or window with a list of all of your courses. You may want to bookmark this page in your browser to make it easier to find later, but you can always find it in the App Launcher.
In the main window, you can move the Classroom Tiles by clicking near the top and dragging it to the order you want.
You can also click on the “hamburger menu” (the little stack of lines next to the words “Google Classroom” at the top) and it will show you an alphabetized list of all of your classes.
