Financial Aid Resources

Below are some links to more information on your financial aid at Birthingway and resources for finding further grants, scholarships, and loans.

Getting Financial Aid

Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA)
This is the federal financial aid form and you should fill it out first - you will need it to determine your eligibility for pretty much every other kind of financial aid. For some "reminder" info on how the federal financial aid programs work, the Department of Education's Funding Education Beyond Highschool is a good place to start.

Get College Funds
Oregon state’s site for college students. In addition to information on paying for college and on general financial literacy, this is the site to go to for state of Oregon managed scholarships. The state handles literally hundreds of scholarships for college students, including the wonderful Ford Family Foundation scholarships, scholarships for former foster youth, for graduates of specific highschools, children of parents who worked in particular unions, and many others.

Managing Your Aid

National Student Loan Data System
Although not always completely up to date, this site can show you the amount of all your Pell Grant and student loans, including those from prior schools. Helpful for determining the amount of money you owe.

Direct Loan Servicing Center
The Direct Loan website. You need to log in (with your PIN#) to check the balance of student loans borrowed while at Birthingway (or other participating schools) and to use their loan calculators, but they will use the actual amount you’ve borrowed to show you your repayment options. Also has interest and budget calculators

Other Aid Resources

FinAid
A privately run site, but still a great resource for information on financial aid. Has a great selection of financial aid calculators  -- budget calculators, loan calculators, interest calculators, etc. Also has a very complete list of alternative/private (non-federally backed) lenders.

Fastweb
Pretty much the biggest scholarship search engine around. You have to sign up (and will see a lot of advertisments) but the site will try to find scholarships that match your personal situation.
